[Newspaper clipping dated] Nov. 26 1887

Off for India.

A large party of relatives and friends were at the Norwich & Worcester station Saturday evening to bid good bye and wish a pleasant journey and safe return home of Mr. Albert W. Tubbs, who left on the boat train for New York and thence will go by steamer to London, Eng., and via the Suez canal to India. He goes in the employ of the Ingersol Rock Drill company of New York, as master mechanic, and has full charge of all the machinery and a gang of miners, which he is to select in Cornwall, Eng. Mr. Tubbs is to open a large gold mine which is situated in Devala Moyer, India. The office of the Devala Moyer Mining company is in London. The mine is sixty miles from the seacoast and is 4,000 feet above the sea, and is reached by riding mules the whole distance. Mr. Tubbs was for seven years in the employ of the Norwich & Worcester railroad as a fireman, later as engineer on the Central railroad of New Jersey for four years, and for a year and a half had charge of the machinery of shaft No. 9 (near Tarrytown) of the new Croton aqueduct for the city of New York, and the last six months has been employed by the Automatic Fire Alarm and Extinguisher company. Mr. Tubbs expects to be absent a year.
