After the close of the war he secured the same tract of land. Buying a cow, and a bag of potatoes started for his new home. Driving his cow before him with the bag on his back reached the place here he commenced falling the trees for a house. Living on his potatoes rosted in the ashes, with the milk from his cow he built his house, made a little clearing around it. He then returned to conneticut where he married Mary Hill, and took her to his new home.

P. 83 [back]
The wife's birth date is given here as Jan. 1790, but is 1797 on p. 81. Probably the person who
filled out the form confused this Clarinda with her sister of the same name who died in infancy
(see p. 81).
P. 87-8, 90 [back]
These pages had the wife's family's information in the wrong spaces on the original form; it has
been correctly identified here (cf. p. 89). The name "Ele" Tubbs on these pages is probably
"Eli", cf. pp. 75A and 93A where it is very clear in the original.
